Position Summary

Sonoma Bespoke is seeking a hands-on Cost Accountant to oversee manufacturing costs, inventory valuation, production costing, and related accounting operations for our wine production and custom bottling activities.
This position will work closely with Production, Purchasing, Inventory, Accounts Payable, and Finance to ensure accurate product costs, inventory records, COGS, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly with operational teams to investigate variances and resolve discrepancies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Production
•  Maintain and analyze product costs for bulk wine, packaging, finished goods, labor, and manufacturing overhead.
•  Monitor production costs and investigate variances related to materials, yield, labor, and production efficiency.
•  Review production and bottling activity to ensure accurate consumption of bulk wine, packaging, and other materials.
•  Support costing and profitability analysis for custom bottling projects and company-owned brands.
•  Work with Production and Purchasing to understand cost drivers, identify discrepancies, and improve cost accuracy.

Inventory & Valuation
•  Maintain accurate inventory valuations for bulk wine, packaging, and finished goods.
•  Reconcile finished goods and packaging inventory in Business Central and bulk wine inventory in Vintrace to the general ledger.
•  Maintain and update inventory costs, including item revaluations for finished goods and packaging.
•  Investigate inventory discrepancies involving adjustments, transfers, production variances, shrinkage, and production losses.
•  Support physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and year-end inventory reconciliation.

Accounting Operations & Month-End Close
•  Analyze COGS, inventory balances, and manufacturing variances as part of the month-end close.
•  Assist with Borrowing Base Inventory Valuations Calculations weekly.
•  Assist with month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and audit requests.
•  Support Accounts Payable activities, including invoice coding, receiving, vendor statement review, accruals, and resolution of discrepancies.
•  Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to manufacturing costs and expenses.

Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement
•  Maintain accurate costing and inventory data in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Vintrace.
•  Develop and maintain reports that provide visibility into product costs, inventory, COGS, margins, and production performance.
•  Identify and resolve system and transaction errors affecting inventory and financial reporting.
•  Improve inventory controls, costing procedures, and production accounting processes.
•  Work cross-functionally with Production, Purchasing, Inventory, and Finance to improve the accuracy and efficiency of accounting operations.

Qualifications & Experience
•  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
•  3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in cost accounting, manufacturing, winery, beverage, or food production.
•  Experience with inventory accounting, product costing, variance analysis, and general ledger reconciliations.
•  Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.
•  Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NAV, or a comparable ERP system preferred.
•  Experience with Vintrace or a winery inventory/production system is a plus.
•  Working knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing accounting principles.
•  Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
